Bike buying advice: frequently asked questions

Bike selection and cycling
Why are all bikes at velomaerkte.ch so much cheaper?

velomaerkte.ch sells almost exclusively clearance models, display bikes, test bikes and similar—bicycles that manufacturers are liquidating because they have excess stock. We pass this price advantage on directly—sometimes as early as May or June of the current season.
Some brands (e.g. Diamant and Kross) are also imported exclusively into Switzerland by velomaerkte.ch, so prices can be set freely—again allowing very attractive pricing.

Is there something wrong with these bikes?

No, the discount brings no disadvantages at all—all bikes are perfect new quality bicycles that in no way differ from full-price models. In many cases the only difference between a last-year and current model is simply a new colour scheme—so you can see the advantage of outgoing models.
All bikes come with the full manufacturer warranty.

Do the bikes really have the higher value that is shown?

Absolutely. The higher value shown for information next to the sale price is the real value of the bicycle. It is therefore not fictitious and would never have been paid at that level anyway; on the contrary: it is the manufacturer's recommended retail price, which during the season is normally paid in shops and in many cases still is.

Where can bought bikes be repaired?

velomaerkte.ch offers high-quality, fully professional repair service in Zurich and Basel. We place the highest value on precise repair work by trained, experienced and committed mechanics. At the same time, thanks to the large number of bikes sold, velomaerkte can offer repairs at uniquely favourable rates, which gives customers a long-term advantage. Bikes can also be repaired anywhere else at any workshop.

What are the warranty terms?

Warranty is provided by the manufacturer. For this reason the terms differ between brands. What all models in our range share, however, is that they have a warranty and that it can be claimed through us if needed. Any damage should be reported to us immediately once discovered.

Which models are in the shops right now?

"Many" is the only reliable answer. Because we often buy larger stocks at short notice and sell them on quickly, it is unfortunately not possible to publish truly up-to-date lists. The range changes continuously—sometimes there are many units of one model, sometimes only a single bike.

Can I reserve a bike I saw on the website?

Reservations are generally possible until the next sales day. If you can visit on the next open day, that is straightforward. You will find current opening hours here, and contact and location details here. In some cases a bike can be reserved for you for longer.

Can I get advice before buying?

Of course—our committed teams will gladly support you with competent, detailed advice. If you prefer to browse on your own, we will not bother you. We believe purchase decisions should be made calmly and thoughtfully so you end up with exactly the right bike. We are also happy if you simply take inspiration from our range—there is no "sales pressure" at velomaerkte.ch.

Can bikes be tested before purchase?

Test rides are ultimately the best buying guide. That is why velomaerkte.ch wants you to try as many bikes as you like for as long as you like, with no obligation to buy. You will find the ride feel completely different on each bike, learn a lot about handling and comfort of the different models, and have plenty of fun—exactly as it should be!

Do you take my used bicycle as a trade-in?

velomaerkte.ch generally does not buy used bikes outright. However, you can sell your old bike through us. For space reasons this is only possible at the velomaerkte.ch bike markets in Basel. Second-hand bikes sell there in large numbers very quickly; the success rate is around 80-90%.
